Nairobi National Park protects a unique savannah ecosystem of open grasslands, riverine forests, acacia woodlands, rocky valleys and seasonal wetlands. Despite its proximity to the city, the park supports an impressive variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles and numerous antelope species. The park is internationally recognized as one of Kenya's most important sanctuaries for the endangered black rhinoceros, hosting one of the country's largest protected populations. It also serves as a vital breeding and dispersal area for wildlife migrating through the Athi-Kapiti ecosystem. One of the park's most remarkable features is the contrast between untouched wilderness and Nairobi's modern skyline, creating one of the most photographed safari landscapes in the world.
